MONTESSORI

Maria Montessori (*1870 – 1952)

Personality,

nor training method,

must be taken into consideration.”

Italian Doctor Maria Montessori started her interest in problems of Children´s education right after her graduation. She found out, with surprise, that child learns to walk, speak and manipulate with objects not due to adults navigation but thru own creativity. This discovery made her elaborate “Montessori Method” explaining certain educational instruments that create suitable environment supporting Childs natural interest, helps him to find right working habits and creates own opinion. (Quotation from web page of Montessori Association)

Her aim was to educate independent, practical and responsible individuals who will be able to solve problems and learn thru their whole life. Approach with children takes place in atmosphere of interest, cooperation and care. Children learn during activities initialised by themselves or Teacher.

Process of learning is held with help of senses. Children learn with using practical materials and cooperation with others. These experiences anticipate abstract understanding of their imagination. Individual is seen as entity. Physical, emotional, social, esthetical, gaining needs and interests are non-separable and have identical importance.

Respect for myself, others, environment and life is important for positive, knowledgeable development and approach to humans and planet.
